Satin Pothos

Satin Pothos (Scindapsus pictus), also known as Silk or Silver Pothos, is an easy-to-grow evergreen tropical vine found in warm and humid regions of Southeast Asia. It attaches to surfaces through its aerial roots and has a vining or climbing habit. Satin Pothos features striking heart-shaped leaves with silvery markings.

Best Locations For Growing Satin Pothos

Because of its natural vining nature, place it in an area where it can trail or climb such as next to a moss stick or in a hanging basket. Satin Pothos needs warmth and humidity, within a temperature range from 65 – 85 degrees F and at least 50% humidity.  It is not a cold-tolerant plant, so avoid placing it near cold drafts in winter.

Satin Pothos Sunlight Requirements

Protect Satin Pothos from direct sunlight. Place it in a location that gets plenty of bright but indirect light. If Satin Pothos is in a lower light environment, the foliage may start to lose some of its silvery markings.

Satin Pothos Care

Plant it in a well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix. Satin Pothos does not enjoy being in wet, soggy soil, so be sure the potting mix contains plenty of peat or perlite. This plant prefers a soil pH between 6.1 to 6.5. You can snip off any dried or damaged leaves with a sharp pair of scissors, or prune the length of your Satin Pothos should its vines become too leggy. By giving it a trim, the plant will become fuller and bushier. If you notice the leaves becoming dusty, you can gently wipe both sides with warm water. Repotting can be done once every two years, but if you see its roots trying to escape from the pot’s drainage holes, it’s time to give it a larger home. Propagation can be done with stem-tip cuttings, placed in a potting soil mix.

Watering Satin Pothos

Avoid overwatering. Water only when the top 2 inches of soil feel dry, and always feel the soil to check. Water with room temperature water until it drains out of the bottom of the pot.

Feeding Satin Pothos

You can fertilize Satin Pothos once a month during its growing season with a water-soluble, balanced houseplant fertilizer.
